Unmissable things to see in Saumane-de-Vaucluse

Saumane-de-Vaucluse: A perched village huddled in the shadow of the castle where the Marquis de Sade once stayed, Saumane offers a gorgeous green setting overlooking the Vallée de la Sorgue. Wander down the narrow cobbled streets and get away from the crowds to experience all the authentic charm of this Provencal village.

L’Isle sur la Sorgue: Known as something of a little Venice because of the river Sorgue that runs through it and its many canals, L’Isle sur la Sorgue is a lively, bustling town with a reputation for its incredible flea markets and antiques shops.

Fontaine-de-Vaucluse: One of the Lubéron region’s most iconic villages, this is where the Sorgue starts: one of the biggest resurgences in Europe. This is the history-packed, untouched beating heart of the Vaucluse region.

Gordes: Deep in the heart of the Monts de Vaucluse, Gordes is one of France’s most beautiful perched villages, and is well worth a visit for its gorgeous sun-baked limestone, dry-stone walls and borie huts.

Le Thor: The ultimate family-friendly destination if you’re heading to Provence, Le Thor has a rich past, as demonstrated by its belfry,  listed Notre Dame du Lac church, and the narrow streets that hug the Sorgue.

Roussillon: Known for its ochre cliffs, Roussillon is a colour-drenched village surrounded by vineyards, lavender fields and cherry and olive trees, earning it a place on France’s list of most beautiful villages.

Discover also in the heart of the Ventoux Natural Park, the Château Pesquié, which offers free tastings from Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 6pm, with free entrance. Benefiting from an amazing microclimate between the mountains and Provence, the wines of this vineyard are marked by a beautiful balance and a great finesse characteristic of this exceptional terroir.
