Les Orres and its surroundings
Lac de Serre-Ponçon: mainland France’s biggest artificial lake, home to Europe’s largest earth dam (2,800 hectares). Packed full of beaches both landscaped and untamed, and studded with water sports bases.
Massif du Parpaillon: a natural frontier between the Hautes-Alpes to the north and the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence to the south. This mountain range also separates the Embrunais from the Vallée de l'Ubaye.
Parc National des Ecrins: widely considered to be Europe’s ultimate mountain-top park. The valleys here form a series of highly individual landscapes and patchworks of different cultures: Oisans, Valbonnais, Briançonnais, Vallouise, Embrunais, Champsaur and Valgaudemar.
Other sites to explore while you’re here: the 16th-century Sainte Marie Madeleine church and its Lombard bell tower, the Notre Dame de la Présentation church, the Musée des Orres, Boscodon Abbey in Crots, Embrun’s cathedral and its sacred ‘treasure’ (the fourth largest in France), as well as the Tour Brune in Embrun.
